HISTORICAL CONTEXT
Abuse has been lead throughout so many years and still is a growing issue. Dating back to the 1600’s and in the united states, children where viewed as property.“American colonists in the 16th and 17th centuries carried the tradition of children being property of their fathers to the early years of the United States...In the early 1870s, child abuse captured the nation's attention with news that an 8 year old orphan named Mary Ellen Wilson was suffering daily whippings and beatings at her foster home.” in the beginnings of the horrific act of abuse, physical abuse was seen by parents who viewed children not as part of a family but as someone or something they would boss around to do activities and if the children didn't listen then there would be consequences. with all the kind of ways that abuse is presented today such as emotional, physical, psychological, verbal abuse and more it is hard to exact a day in which this abuse began. the historical context of children abuse goes back to the 16th and 17th century. “American colonist in the 16th and 17th centuries the tradition of children being property of their fathers to the early years of the United States. Required that, in order to get funding, states must have mandatory reporting laws, prompt investigations of abuse/neglect reports, etc.” to be alive in this time where abuse has become a great issue is very hard. Also to be a child of the young generation and to have parents that come from different cultures and different ways can be a huge impact on how abuse is generated.
